Restoring Your Dental Implants in San Diego, CA
Some of our patients need to replace teeth which have been lost, but do not want the hassle of traditional dentures or bridges. Dental implants are an alternative solution, and our dentist can add the final restoration to these replacement teeth. Michael G. McMahon, DDS
provides dental implant restorations to the people of the greater San Diego area, including Downtown San Diego, La Jolla, and Point Loma.
The Final Step in Teeth Replacement
Dental implants are replacements for teeth which are about as strong as their natural counterparts. The restorations that Dr. McMahon provides are the final step in receiving dental implants.
These dental prostheses are the visible chewing surface of the implant; they are the only part of the implant people see when you smile. The restorations are designed to look like natural, healthy teeth and are strong enough to function like normal teeth for many years. Our San Diego dentist is skilled in making these restorations be both strong and beautiful to help you receive your ideal smile.
What Types of Restorations Are Offered?
When it is time to restore your dental implant, Dr. McMahon offers crowns, bridges, and full and partial dentures.
The restoration he will use is determined in part by what the specialist who surgically placed the implant posts has done. Crowns are used when a single implant has been placed to replace an individual tooth. Fixed bridges replace multiple teeth in a row, and these can rest on as little as two implants. If the tooth loss is more spread out, or a full arch of teeth is missing, a partial or full denture can be used to rebuild your smile; dentures can be supported by as little as four implants.
Once your restoration is chosen and planned in accordance with your bite, Dr. McMahon will then fabricate the restorations. Using our in-office CEREC® machine, our San Diego dentist can create your restoration out of porcelain within one visit to his office. Porcelain is the material of choice because it both closely mimics the appearance of natural teeth and because it is strong enough to stand up to the daily stress of chewing. The restoration is added to the implant post, and you walk out of our practice with a restored smile.
